Vision Statement

The vision of the Academy of Detroit West is to provide an exceptional learning environment for all students to succeed in achieving academic excellence in kindergarten through sixth grade.

 

Mission Statement

Detroit West Preparatory Academy believes in each child as an individual, that all children can learn, and that all children will succeed. Therefore, Detroit West Preparatory Academy will provide our students with a culturally diverse and positive learning environment in which each student can become a well-rounded, productive and contributing member of society.

 

Beliefs Statement

The philosophy and belief of this school is to offer the finest academic program possible; to improve student learning by creating a school with high rigorous standards for student performance; to teach self discipline, honor and high moral standards to teach students to understand the American free enterprise system and encourage and allow the most effective teaching methods in an environment where each students is well known.

This school will for provide teachers with the opportunity, responsibility, and accountability for the management and control of total school curriculum and environment. It will also foster student, parent, and community involvement through the use of community resources and partnerships.

  1.  We will endorse a healthy learning environment by instituting programs that promote nutrition and physical activities to decrease the likelihood of childhood obesity and related illnesses and advocate lifelong healthy habits.
  2. On the MEAP test, all students will achieve a 1 0r 2 (proficient) score on the writing portions (constructed response-Math, Social Studies, and Science, student writing sample-ELA, response to reading selections-ELA, take a stand-Social Studies) of the test and will meet or exceed Michigan Educational Standards for writing. This will be accomplished by the students' complete understanding of 6 + 1 Traits of Writing Instructional Program.
